This briefing note provides background and key advocacy messages on the NCD Alliance’s main priorities for the 140th WHO Executive Board (EB) in January 2017. The EB will nominate three candidates for the election of WHO Director-General at the 70th World Health Assembly, discuss the preparatory process for the 2018 UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs (2018 UN HLM on NCDs), and consider a number of NCD-related agenda items including the draft implementation plan on ending childhood obesity, the draft action plan on the public health response to dementia, a report and resolution on cancer prevention and control and the health of migrants.
The 2016 WHO Regional Committee meetings ran from August until October and provided an opportunity to adapt global priorities and action plans to regional context. NCD Alliance, with inputs from representatives at the meetings, has compiled a summary of NCDs as featured in the different discussions, together with links to statements relating to different NCD issues.

NCD Alliance, World Obesity Federation & WCRF International, together with 21 signatories, have issued a joint statement on the Draft Implementation Plan for the Recommendations of the WHO Commission on Ending Childhood Obesity (ECHO). The statement highlights the need for a comprehensive package of multisectoral policies across the life-course and calls for the development of a stronger accountability framework to End Childhood Obesity.
