  • The UN will hold the first annual 'SDG Moment' on 18 September. The details of this event remain under discussion.
  • High-level Meeting to Commemorate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations: The Meeting will take place as previously scheduled on 21 September 2020, and the Declaration, whose negotiations concluded in July, will be formally adopted at this Meeting.
  • The High-Level UNGA General Debate Week will take place from 22 September through 26 September, and 29 September 2020.
  • High-level Summit on Biodiversity: The Summit will be convened by the President of the General Assembly on 30 September 2020. The Summit will focus on the need to accelerate action on biodiversity for sustainable development. HoS/G will work towards developing the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework to be adopted at the 15th meeting of the Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in 2021.
  • High-level Meeting on the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women: The Meeting will take place on 1 October 2020.

This year, UNGA has also extended its use of the silence procedure and has empowered UNGA President to circulate draft decisions to all Member States at least 72 hours after consulting with the General Committee. If there are no objections raised, such decisions are considered adopted. It is expected that the Omnibus Resolution on “Comprehensive and Coordinated Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic” will be adopted via this mechanism.
